Let’s jazz things up – We Jazz vinyl pop-up opens in Glasshouse Helsinki
By Glasshouse Helsinki
Part of Glasshouse Helsinki’s mission is to connect the different genres of art and design. The latest addition to the Aleksanterinkatu store is a We Jazz vinyl pop-up. We Jazz main man Matti Nives is as excited about the visit as we are.
“When I first heard about Glasshouse Helsinki and the idea that something as uncommercial as this will be opened in such a central location, I almost did not believe it. Now we are happy to be a part of it”, he says.
"There are many records that cannot be bought anywhere else in Helsinki."
What is the pop-up like? Not only jazz. Matti Nives tells us that the curated selection of records is “like a postcard” from the We Jazz Records main store in Vallila.
“It is a selection of a few hundred records, we made it compact and high-class. There are many records that cannot be bought anywhere else in Helsinki”, he decribes the pop-up store.
As We Jazz is also a record label, Nives says that the collection naturally features records from the label’s own artists.
Matti’s hot tip from the pop-up store? The records from Analog Africa label. “It is something a little different, like African folk music cumbia for example. And the records have great liner notes ”, he says.
Rolf Ekroth is not kidding. The talented Finnish designer makes a point of describing himself as the serious one compared to Japanese designer Wataru Tominaga.
When artist and experimental designer Megan McFlynn was invited to create an installation for Glasshouse Helsinki, she was given one material by Finnish basic industry giant.
do you read me?! bookstore offers a selected range of inspiring international magazines, journals and books. The selection at Glasshouse Helsinki features titles on sustainability, responsibility and ecological awareness in design, architecture and art..
