Exhibition 9.9. – 2.10.2021 at Glasshouse Helsinki gallery
The exhibition presents three new joyful designs of Young Designer of the Year (2021) Hanna Anonen. The wooden flower pedestrals are inspired by knobs and threaded rods of the fences and gates of gardens and parks.
Hanna Anonen is a versatile designer whose portfolio covers a wide range from spatial and graphic design to interior decoration products, such as furniture and smaller items. The bold and unique pieces, which are often made from painted wood, are characterised by bright colours, unexpected ideas and playfulness. Hanna received the Young Designer of the Year prize in 2021, awarded by Design Forum Finland. Her works are reinventing the image of Finnish modern design and have received international attention. Thanks to her strong identity as a designer, Hanna Anonen is paving the way for other young designers.

When we think of origins, what comes to mind? The brief for the course Product Design in Ceramics asked students to design and produce an artifact reflecting on origins that included a traditional ceramics manufacturing technique (e.g. pinching, coiling, slabbing, throwing, slip casting) as well as a 3D-printed method (delta print extrusion or stereolithography). Students explored the idea of origins from different perspectives ranging from cultural and ethnic origins to personal histories, to the origins of humanity, Earth, and the universe.
Experimental light installations and lamps made out of concrete
Heavy, big, ugly, rough, vague, grey, hard… These are often the first attributes we relate to concrete. The design students from Aalto University’s School of Arts, Design and Architecture are challenging these established conventions of concrete as material by trying to combine concrete and light.
This year, the main events Helsinki Design Week 2021 will take place at Glasshouse Helsinki Aleksanterinkatu location taking over the second, third and fourth floors.
