This year, the main events Helsinki Design Week 2021 will take place at Glasshouse Helsinki Aleksanterinkatu location taking over the second, third and fourth floors from September 9th to September 19th. In addition to the main venue, the festival is spread across various venues in the city centre: from museums to market places and from seminar halls to secret boutiques.
The festival theme The 2021 theme for the festival is “Wisdom”, or more precisely “What is Wise to Design now?” inviting everyone joining us to ask themselves what is the wisest way to do what they’re doing.
The festival programme The main events at Glasshouse Helsinki are the following – full descriptions of the events will be launched 12 August. This is when all Open Call events will also be launched and the ticket sales begin.:
9.9. – 23.10. Exhibition: U-Joints @ Glasshouse Helsinki Aleksanterinkatu 13, 00100 Helsinki U-JOINTS explores the use of joints in design and architecture. Knots & Knits is the fourth part of Andrea Caputo and Anniina Koivu’s U-JOINTS research project and series of exhibitions. During Helsinki Design Week, Knots & Knits explains the history of textiles, fabrics and ropes. 10. – 12.9. Shopping: Design Market @ Glasshouse Helsinki Aleksanterinkatu 13, 00100 Helsinki Organized at the Cable Factory since 2005, the largest outlet event in the Nordic countries will now take place on the third and fourth floors of Glasshouse Helsinki, exceptionally from 10 to 12 September. The vendors include designers and makers of high-quality furniture and interior design products who operate following the principles of sustainable development.
15. – 19.9. Seminar: Office of the Future @ Glasshouse Helsinki Aleksanterinkatu 13, 00100 Helsinki What is the Office of the Future like? The year of the pandemic accelerated the change in our ways of working, an inescapable development. The Office of the Future exhibition presents a versatile collection of ideas from furniture makers, designers and researchers on how and where we are to work in the future.
15. – 19.9. Exhibition: “What is Wise?” @ Glasshouse Helsinki Aleksanterinkatu 13, 00100 Helsinki During the festival, the festival theme What is Wise? is explored on the fourth floor of our main venue Glasshouse Helsinki. We can expect to see the latest products and ideas from Finnish designers, participate in daily discussions and visit a pop-up restaurant to meet people.
9. – 19.9. Multiple events: Children’s Design Week @ Glasshouse Helsinki Aleksanterinkatu 13, 00100 Helsinki There will be fun things to explore and do for the children, too at Glasshouse Helsinki.

Jouko Lehtola (1963–2010) was known as a photographer, especially for his series of photographs depicting young people and youth culture, as well as social issues. Lehtola first gained a reputation as a magazine photographer, and today his name is associated with the biggest stars of Finnish rock. “Jönssi” became a credit photographer of the artists, whose art can be admired in hundreds of album covers and artist and band images.
This summer Glasshouse Helsinki is proud to present three different exhibitions by fresh talents of Vapaa Taidekoulu and Aalto University at the gallery space on the second floor.
